The Echo Educator works in conjunction with the Methodist School of Imaging Sciences and is responsible for initial and on-going education of all student and intern sonographers and laboratory sonographers. Evaluates staff sonographer performance and conducts a formal remediation process of sonographer skills when required. Introduces new techniques and modalities to the laboratory staff, and effectively assimilates them into laboratory protocol under the guidance of the medical director. Performs periodic laboratory QA projects in conjunction with the medical director. Cross-trains with the laboratory technical director to participate in all required ICAEL laboratory activities, directs daily laboratory activity, and in collaborating with the biomedical department in maintenance of all laboratory equipment. Key Job Responsibilities: •Develops and/or coordinates education and technical training for sonographers. •Performs echocardiograms utilizing ultrasonic equipment in various modes and techniques to locate, evaluate, and record anatomical, pathological, and functional data. •Attends and participates in, as a member or chairperson, in departmental/hospital committees or group meetings as appointed or assigned. Participates in quality monitoring and evaluation activities. •Demonstrates effective customer relation’s skills, promotes a positive work environment, and contributes to the overall team effort. •Performs other job functions as assigned or requested. Supervision Provided by this Position: •Leads and guides Echocardiographer Trainees in Cardiovascular Services. •Educates staff on quality improvement, technical skills, and responsible for echo fellowship program.
Physical Demands/Conditions: •The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. •Must have good balance and coordination. •The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently. •The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading. •Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact. •Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials. •Ability to react quickly to emergency situations. •Must be available for on-call staffing within the department as well as after-hours technical support.
Education/Training & Experience: Education/Formal Training Work Experience Credential/Licensure
REQUIRED: •Bachelor’s degree required. A four year degree in Medical Ultrasound is ideal •Minimum of five years of full time clinical experience performing Echocardiography •Must be credentialed as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) in Adult or Pediatric Echo from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED:In lieu of the five years of Echocardiography experience, a Master’s degree with three years of clinical experience performing Echocardiography can be accepted.
