Learn More Nursing Instructor FULL TIME, TENURE TRACK TEACHING POSITION NURSING POSITION DESCRIPTION The two-year Associate Degree Nursing Program, approved by the Board of Registered Nursing, prepares students for entry- level employment as registered nurses in hospitals and community settings. Teaching assignments will be available in medical- surgical, obstetric and/or pediatric areas of the program. Faculty will be responsible for supervising students in clinical learning experiences, supervising students in campus-based nursing practice labs, seminar groups, and nursing theory classes in the first or second year of the program. Faculty may have a teaching assignment in more than one course. The position requires participation in a variety of campus and divisional activities such as faculty meetings, student activities, office hours, and curriculum/instructional development. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview, which will include a teaching demonstration on an assigned topic. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Nursing; AND Direct patient care experience within the last five (5) years in the nursing area to which he/she is assigned, which can be met by: a) One (1) year’s continuous full-time or its equivalent providing direct patient care as a Registered Nurse in the designated nursing area; or b) one (1) academic year of Registered Nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency; as set by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND Valid California Registered Nurse License or eligibility for California Licensure as a registered nurse AND Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural disability and ethnic backgrounds of college students. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Recent community college teaching experience; experience in teaching reading, developmental and transfer level composition; ability to address the needs of student form developmental through transfer levels, especially those who are under prepared; experience developing and using innovative teaching strategies to meet student needs; expertise with current methodology in reading and composition; successful experience with different learning technologies; experience teaching and teaching/learning online; commitment to Basic Skills instruction; effective oral and written communication skills. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Full time, tenure-track teaching position effective February 9, 2019.
