SDMS's core purpose is to enhance the art and science of medicine by advancing medical sonography. As an SDMS member you will join an exclusive network of over 28,000 sonographers and sonography students.
Formed in 2009, the SDMS Foundation is a nonprofit charitable organization affiliated with the SDMS. The SDMS Foundation fosters professional learning and excellence by working to improve the field of diagnostic medical sonography.
Performs therapeutic massage techniques to promote health and well-being in a variety of populations and settings.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Knowledgeable of the appropriate applications of massage/bodywork.
Knowledge of pathophysiology as it relates to massage/bodywork therapy.
Explains massage techniques to client before beginning the session. Solicits questions from client.
Observes and questions client's response to the massage/bodywork throughout the session.
Meets professional standards and code of ethics at all times.
Maintains a professional environment and practice at all times.
Maintains the therapy area in a clean, neat and organized manner.
Seeks consultation of other healthcare professionals when appropriate; makes appropriate referrals to clients as needed.
Maintains equipment; disinfects and sterilizes instruments.
Always follows standard precautions.
For therapists doing sports massage with modalities, competencies in therapeutic ultrasound and electrical stimulation are required.
Maintains client records; all documentation meets standards and policies of the facility.
Performs all aspects of client care in an environment that optimizes client safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Is a resource person for other healthcare professionals regarding massage techniques and their benefits.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops; shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.
Cooperates with other personnel to achieve office/clinic objectives, maintains good employee relations.
Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
Demonstrates awareness of current state, federal and local laws governing the delivery of care.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict.
High School graduate or equivalent.
Graduate from a state licensed/approved massage school with a minimum of 500 hours of instruction or a curriculum based Athletic Training program that meets NATA criteria required.
Certification by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) or Certification by the National Athletic Training Association preferred.
Minimum of 2 years experience as a massage therapist preferred.
Advanced training in a specific massage technique preferred.
Licensed in the state of Montana as a Massage Therapist required.
